Things haven't started the way Luka Doncic had hoped for his Slovenian national team, which is set to begin its EuroBasket campaign this week, taking the court on Thursday, August 28 at 8:30 PM against Poland. The team managed just one win—against a second-division Great Britain squad—but lost all its other warm-up games. With a 1-5 record in their pre-tournament summer schedule, Slovenia approaches the opener with more doubts than certainties.
The situation worsened in their final friendly, a heavy 106–72 loss to Serbia. Doncic, visibly frustrated, showed body language that reignited familiar criticisms from his NBA career.

The defeat, handed out by one of the tournament favorites, highlighted the struggles of a shallow roster lacking veteran leadership. According to Sport Klub, Doncic didn’t hide his dissatisfaction even in the locker room. The outlet reported“Even team captain Luka Doncic, visibly frustrated, made his presence felt behind closed doors. It’s said he had some direct words for his teammates” — a clear sign of growing tension on the eve of EuroBasket.

The incident was confirmed by Edo Muric, who said:
“I don’t like to talk about what’s happening inside the team. Yes, we had a conversation. We cleared the air, and we said what needed to be said. This loss has brought us even closer together.”
