Barcelona was also present at the NBA meeting in London. But just a few days later, the club’s Board of Directors ratified the extension of its EuroLeague license for the next 10 years, through the 2036/37 season, effectively closing the door on NBA Europe. “The Board of Directors reaffirms its commitment to always participate in the highest-level competitions available,” reads the official statement on the club’s website.

In recent months, there had been talk of Barcelona considering the NBA, but it had increasingly seemed that the club’s management intended to remain in the EuroLeague - a direction that has now been confirmed. Barcelona boasts two EuroLeague titles, won in 2003 and 2010. The Spanish club was among the last to decide on its license renewal, alongside Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul, LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, and Real Madrid, with the latter two seemingly willing to wait for the NBA.
