Virtus Bologna makes a key move on the market to reinforce its backcourt. According to a source, Yago Dos Santos will be the new point guard of the Italian side. The Brazilian, born in 1999, arrived in Europe with Ratiopharm Ulm in the summer of 2022 before moving to Crvena Zvezda, where he spent the last three seasons. After a solid EuroLeague debut campaign with averages of 8.7 points, 3.9 assists and 2 rebounds per game while shooting 40.2% from three-point range, his role gradually decreased, dropping to just 10.7 minutes per game this season, in which he posted 2.6 points and 2.2 assists. In the ABA Liga, however, he averaged 7.8 points and 4.9 assists in 18.8 minutes, shooting 35.6% from beyond the arc.

In a difficult moment marked by the dismissal of Dusko Ivanovic, the appointment of Nenad Jakovljević, and a long losing streak, the club has responded decisively. It was a quiet but necessary move, especially considering the long absences of Luca Vildoza and Alessandro Pajola, as the front office waited for the right opportunity. That opportunity led to an experienced EuroLeague player, ready to make an immediate impact and provide a spark for the team heading into the final stretch of the season and the push for the Italian championship.

Dos Santos also brings a winning pedigree, having helped Crvena Zvezda capture the ABA Liga title in the 2023–24 season, earning Finals MVP honors. He has also won two Serbian Cups (Korac Cup) and a Serbian league title, adding valuable experience and leadership to Virtus Bologna’s roster.
