Isaac Jones returns to the Detroit Pistons on a two-way contract

The Detroit Pistons have decided to bring Isaac Jones back to the team less than a week after waiving him, signing him to a two-way contract valid for two seasons, as reported by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. The 1999-born forward, who went undrafted out of Washington State, impressed as a rookie in the 2024/25 season with the Sacramento Kings: initially on a two-way deal, he earned a promotion to a standard contract last March. Sacramento, however, waived him in November to make room for Precious Achiuwa, and Detroit claimed the 25-year-old off waivers at that time. His first stint with the Pistons lasted about three months but had minimal impact, as he appeared in just one game and logged only two garbage-time minutes before being waived again to facilitate a three-team trade with the Bulls and Timberwolves.

Jones has spent most of the season in the G League with the Motor City Cruise, the Pistons’ affiliate, posting solid numbers: 15.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.3 blocks per game in 28.1 minutes, shooting 55.7% from the field across 26 appearances. After acquiring Kevin Huerter and Dario Šarić from Chicago, Detroit initially had a full roster, but Šarić’s subsequent release and the promotion of Daniss Jenkins to a standard contract opened up a two-way slot, now filled by Jones. The other two two-way players available to head coach Monty Williams are Tolu Smith and Wendell Moore Jr.
