Germany opened its EuroBasket 2025 campaign in Group B with a convincing win over Montenegro, thanks to a dominant second half. However, the celebration was dampened by an injury to Isaac Bonga, who was forced to leave the game with 5:53 remaining in the fourth quarter due to an issue with his left knee. Interim head coach Alan Ibrahimagic commented: “I haven’t spoken to him yet, only to the doctors. They’re not sure; I hope he’s okay. We don’t know yet.” Head coach Alex Mumbru is also uncertain for the next game against Sweden, scheduled for Friday.

Before Bonga’s exit, Germany had taken control of the match behind the sharp shooting of Andreas Obst, who repeatedly connected from beyond the arc. “There wasn’t much to say at halftime,” said the FC Bayern Munich guard. “Offensively, we were fine, but we lacked energy, physicality, and communication on defense. We knew what was needed and came out showing it.” With a well-balanced team performance and solid leadership, Germany displayed its potential to make a strong run in the tournament—though Bonga’s condition remains a major question mark heading into the next games.
