Official: Josh Giddey Stays with the Bulls on $100 Million Deal

After weeks of speculation, the deal between the Chicago Bulls and Josh Giddey is finally official. According to ESPN, the Australian guard has signed a four-year, $100 million contract extension. Last season, the 22-year-old played for the Bulls, averaging 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists in 30.2 minutes per game. His shooting percentages were solid: 51.2% from two-point range, 37.8% from three, and 78.1% from the free-throw line. Back in early February, Giddey was averaging just 11.3 points per game on 44.3% shooting. However, his numbers surged after Zach LaVine was traded to Sacramento. Over the final two and a half months of the regular season, Giddey put up 20.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 8.3 assists, and 1.4 steals in 33.3 minutes per game. Following the LaVine trade, the Bulls averaged 117.8 points per 100 possessions with Giddey on the floor — a figure that ranked them among the top five offenses in the league during that stretch.
Giddey and the Bulls – A New Chapter
The 6th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Giddey completed a three-year stint with the Oklahoma City Thunder, a team that climbed from the bottom of the Western Conference to secure the top seed. Alongside young stars like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luguentz Dort, and later additions Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren, Giddey was part of a promising core.
However, the 2024 playoff run ended on a sour note: the Dallas Mavericks’ defense exposed his shooting limitations, leading to Giddey being benched in key moments. That vulnerability led to a surprising turn of events: the 6'8" playmaker was traded to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for elite role player Alex Caruso — a move that marks a significant new chapter in Giddey’s young career.
