Baskonia announces the signing of Mamadi Diakite on a two-year deal

The Guinean power forward, standing at 2.06 meters and 28 years old, is set to make his EuroLeague debut after spending his entire professional career in the United States. During the 2024-25 season, Diakite played for the Valley Suns, the Phoenix Suns’ G League affiliate, where he posted impressive numbers: 13.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game across 44 appearances. His consistent performances in the paint drew the attention of the Basque club, which is ready to integrate him into its frontcourt for the upcoming European campaign.
An athletic player with strong rebounding instincts and solid defensive presence, Diakite is expected to bring energy and international experience to the Baskonia roster.
Before turning professional, Diakite played four years of college basketball at the University of Virginia, where he played a key role in the Cavaliers' historic 2019 NCAA Championship win — the first in the school’s history.
Since turning pro in 2020, Diakite has had stints in the NBA with the Milwaukee Bucks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs, and New York Knicks. At the same time, he was a key contributor for several G League teams, including the Lakeland Magic, Cleveland Charge, Westchester Knicks, Austin Spurs, and most recently, the Valley Suns.
