Two weeks after being re-appointed head coach of Mozambique's men's national team, Milagre Macome has selected 16 players for the preparations of the FIBA AfroBasket 2017 Zone 6 Qualifiers.

Without making significant changes, Macome - who last coached his country at FIBA AfroBasket 2013 - kept nine of the 12 players who featured at FIBA AfroBasket 2015 in Tunisia.

Baggio Chimondzo, Inelcio Chire, David Canivete Junior, Pio Matos Junior, Octavio Magolico, Hugo Martins, Amarildo Matos, Augusto Matos, Edson Monjane, Ismael Nurmamad, Custodio Muchate, Dercio Mula, Ermelindo Novela, Orlando Novela, Manuel Uamusse, Helton Ubisse.

Mozambique will do battle in Zone 6 Group H against rivals Botswana, hosts Zimbabwe and Seychelles in the Zimbabwe capital of Harare from March 19-25. The team that comes out on top will earn a place in the Final Round of this year’s FIBA AfroBasket taking place in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo (August 19-30).

The qualifiers will be played in a round-robin format with each team taking on its three opponents. The team that finishes second in Group H will have a second chance of advancing to Brazzaville by taking on the second-placed team of Group G, which consists of Zambia, Angola, Madagascar and South Africa.
