Dorin Buca Opens Up on Move to Kansas State and NBA Dreams

After two years in Livorno, Dorin Buca has decided to take the leap to college basketball with Kansas State. “I’m excited and curious to discover what’s waiting for me. Right now, my desire to play basketball outweighs the awareness that I’m stepping into a completely different world from the one I’ve known so far. Lately, I’ve had some doubts about leaving. Being out there alone is scary, and with a seven-hour time difference, it’ll be hard to talk to my loved ones in Italy. But I’ve had time to think it over, and the support of my mom and my girlfriend has been crucial. If I settle in well, I won’t mind making big sacrifices for my career,” he told Il Messaggero.

“I’m going with the mindset of someone who wants to live the experience and see what the so-called American dream is like from the inside. I don’t know what the future holds. In my first year, I’ll focus on adapting and seeing how I feel. I might just stay for a year and then come back to Europe, since I actually prefer the EuroLeague. The NBA, however, is still every player’s dream,” added Buca, who hopes to one day play for the Italian national team. “The Romanian federation contacted me this summer, but I turned them down because I want to try to be called up by Italy. I’m currently waiting for my citizenship process to be handled. For sure, going to play in the U.S. is an important step for my career.”
