Real Madrid signs Izan Almansa through 2029

Real Madrid is betting on Izan Almansa. The club has officially signed the 20-year-old big man (208 cm) to a multi-year contract, adding another piece to head coach Sergio Scariolo’s roster.
The young Spanish center—one of the most promising talents in Spanish basketball in recent years—was already part of Real Madrid’s youth system between 2019 and 2021. During that time, he progressed through the Cadete B, Cadete A, and Junior A teams, playing three games in the EBA League.

Born in Murcia, Almansa began his career in the youth ranks of UCAM before moving to the Spanish capital. However, in the summer of 2021, he headed to the United States to join the newly launched Overtime Elite academy—a program that paid young players while allowing them to continue their development, something that was not allowed in college basketball at the time.

In 2023, he moved to the G League Ignite but was unable to make the leap to the NBA. He went undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft and packed his bags to play in the Australian league with the Perth Wildcats. In the 2024/25 season, he averaged 7.6 points and 4.3 rebounds in 17.2 minutes per game.
