Romania have begun training for FIBA EuroBasket 2017 with coach Marcel Tenter putting 15 players through their paces in the country. The group is working out at Cheile Gradiste until June 30. Here Romania players in training ahead of FIBA EuroBasket 2017:
Catalin Baciu, Octavian Popa, Calota Vlad, Corpodean Dragos, Diculescu Adrian Gutoaia, Andrei Mandache, Titus Nicoara Alexandru Olah, Iulian Orbeanu, Radu Paliciuc, Catalin Petrisor, Bogdan Tibirna, Dan Tohatan, Rolland Torok, Adrian Tudor; Veteran Vlad Moldoveanu, and Nandor Kuti of champions Cluj-Napoca; Emauel Cate of Sevilla and Bogdan Nicolescu of CSM CSU Oradea will join for the second stage.
The federation has said that North Americans currently in the process of being naturalized are also to join in the coming weeks. Romania will take part in Europe's flagship event for the first time in three decades. They are to host Group C of FIBA EuroBasket 2017 and will take on Spain, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Montenegro.
"It's a huge opportunity for us," Tenter said. "We're very happy to host such an important competition. We've been waiting a long time for this opportunity.
"We know that we, even as hosts, are the underdogs because we haven't participated for such a long time in the Final Round of a EuroBasket, but we have our chance and we will fight for it." A top-four finish will be needed to advance to the Round of 16.
