Algeria new head coach Ahmed Loubachria has called up 22 players as they prepare for the FIBA AfroBasket 2017 Zone 1 Qualifiers. While nine of the 22 selected players have featured at FIBA AfroBasket 2015, a number of new faces are set to fight for a spot on the Algerian final roster that will take on regional rivals Libya, Morocco and Tunisia next month:

Fedala Anis,  Hichem Benayad, Mehdi Cheriet, Abdesslem Dekkiche, Touhami Ghezzoul, Abdellah Hamdini, Mohamed Harat, Abderahim Haylouf, Ammour Kamel, Brahim Maziz, Berremila Mehdi, Bourkaib Merouane, Samir Mekdad, Yanis Mostefat Gueddoudi Nabil, Merahi Ramzi, Faidia Rouof, Sedik Touati, Khaled Wahab, Belmiloud Younes, Guermat Mohamed Zaki, Mohamed-Amine Zerouali.

Among the newcomers are 18-year-old Abderrahmane Hailouf, who averaged a team-high 7 rebounds per game at last year's FIBA Africa U18 Championship and Canada-based Hichem Benayad, who has been on Algeria's radar over the past few years.

The first leg of the qualifier will take place in the Algerian capital of Algiers from 16-18 March while the second leg is set to place in Tunisia a week later. 

According to media reports, Algeria will be holding a training camp in Egypt from 26 to 28 February, where they are expected to play warm-up games.

The teams that finish first and second in the qualifier will secure a place in the FIBA AfroBasket 2017 Final Round in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo in August (19-30).
